Blackberry Porter - Cannery Brewing, 6.5% ABV, (Penticton, BC) On the bottle: “An exciting explosion of flavour! Five carefully chosen malted barleys are combined with three superior hop varieties to produce this traditional Porter. Natural blackberry adds an exciting complexity to this easy sipping wonder. 36 IBU.” My Notes: My Rating: C Why it’s okay: nothing offensive, but nothing special Where I got it: BC Liquor Stores How much: $5 for 650ml, January 2012 Do I love this enough to drink it again: Nope Would I recommend this to beer afficianados: Nope Tasting Notes: almost purplish-black, small head, minimal lacing, ringed retention, micro and macro CO2, non-visible CO2 streams. Pleasant blackberry aromas on the nose. Smoky, slightly oaked, hints of coffee and trace amounts of blackberry flavour in there. Mids consist of coffee, nuts, and finishes with a medium-bittersweet long lingering finish. In the ingredients it lists “natural blackberry flavour”. It certainly doesn’t burst with blackberry flavour so therefore - Doesn’t taste as advertised!! Overall it’s an okay beer with an okay flavour profile. Medium complexity, medium depth, low-medium carry (flavour fades and is watery at the finish). Won’t drink again and can’t recommend.
